‘Deloitte 4L Eco Challenge’ competition. All the crews are encouraged to take part in this environmentally friendly initiative. The competition aims to bring together and assist participants who decide to undertake one or several ‘green’ initiatives during the 4L Trophy™. The crew which carries out the best project and sends a presentation dossier to Désertours before 31 March 2009 will receive a prize of 1,000€. The organisers will retain elements of the best projects with the intention of making them an integral part of future rallies. For more information, go to the page Deloitte 4L ECO CHALLENGE !
Operation ‘Clean Desert’ As part of this operation, the organisers have committed themselves to meticulously cleaning up the bivouac sites and to ensuring that the trails are restored to their original state at the end of the rally. In addition, each crew will be given a bio-degradeable plastic bag at the start of each stage. This ensures that not only will all of the participants’ litter be collected, but also that if a bag happens to get left behind in the desert, it will naturally and rapidly degrade without having any negative effect on the environment. All of the Road-books are printed on recycled paper.
The 4L TROPHY™ offsets all of its CO2 emissions. In partnership with Climat Mundi, the 4L Trophy has chosen to make a voluntary contribution to offset the unavoidable greenhouse gases which are emitted by the vehicles of the organisers and the participants. This contribution will be financed in its entirety by the organisers.
The 4L Trophy™ is financially supporting a program in India overseen by Climat Mundi which aims to conserve the environment and to improve the population’s standard of living.
The project involves producing electricity by burning residues from farming which were not previously put to effective use. It is registered under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (the Kyoto Protocol) as a CDM project (Clean Development Mechanism) under number 0971.
