A message for Raid 4L Trophy ™  adventurers!

‘The two of us are students at the ENSIATE school of engineering and we specialise in renewable energies and sustainable development. This year, we made up Crew 606 of the 11th 4L Trophy ™ .

We took part in the Deloitte 4L Eco Challenge 2008.

Our participation in this competition was natural, given our area of study. We began the project in the course of 2007.

Participating in the Deloitte 4L Eco Challenge is about deciding to act in the interests of the environment. It requires thought, imagination and motivation. And because we had the ambitious plan of transporting a photovoltaic installation to a family in need, we also had to raise an additional budget.

But we were pleasantly surprised when the sponsors, who were very taken by the concept, generously agreed to support us financially.

For our first project we undertook the following actions:

The installation of a solar panel on the roof of our 4L, as well as a system for managing electrical energy:

• The offsetting of our journey’s carbon emissions through participation in a methanisation project in Brazil.
• The decking out of our 4L in the colours of sustainable development.
• The use of wooden plates and cutlery for our meals.
• The installation of a solar oven and a solar panel at the home of a woman living without electricity in the Merzouga region.

On the basis of these initiatives, our conviction and our know-how, we won the Deloitte 4L Eco Challenge 2008, ahead of other projects which were also of a very high standard.

Throughout our journey down to Morocco, we got to know a lot of new people. Having a source of electrical energy certainly made us popular with other rally participants who wanted to recharge their cameras and mobile phones…

The actual installation of the solar panel only took us two and a half hours. And we were very privileged to meet the local population and to share experiences with them – it was a simply great moment!

So get to work without further ado! If you have ideas, see them through to the very end – it is bound to be worth it.

If you’ve got any questions on how to go about it all, please do get in touch. Remember that the 4L Trophy is about helping each other!’

Enguerran & Thomas, Crew 606 (11th 4L Trophy)
