All the answers to your questions about the 4L Trophy
Frequently asked questions
Pre-registering allows you to reserve your spot. It also lets you prove to potential sponsors that you are registered and have already put down money, which demonstrates your motivation and lends credibility to your preparation efforts for the raid.
Check your Spam or Junk mail folder — acknowledgement emails often end up there. Remember to always allow emails from Raid 4L Trophy, as we regularly send newsletters with lots of useful information. You will also receive the same confirmation by post a little while later.
Yes, you can reserve your spot without knowing your co-pilot, but you can no longer change co-drivers after the final registration deadline.
You can change co-driver as long as you are pre-registered. However, once the final commitment form has been returned signed and validated, no changes can be made. At least one member of the original crew must always remain in the crew.
No, the crew can only consist of a driver and a co-driver.
This assistance covers repatriation for the crew (driver and co-driver) and the vehicle (4L). To this end, 2 Mutuaide Assistance representatives will be on the ground to help you with repatriation procedures. This assistance must be paid at the same time as the registration balance. It is mandatory for all crews, with no exceptions. The organisation handles the subscription with Mutuaide Assistance, and the amount will be due at the time of final commitment.
Cancellation insurance is not mandatory. You can subscribe to it through the organisation when completing your final commitment form. It allows you to recover the amounts paid under the contractual terms of the insurance (policy clauses will be available in your participant space).
Yes, a passport is mandatory to enter Moroccan territory. An ID card is therefore not valid. We recommend getting your passport as soon as possible and starting the process now. French nationals do not need a visa. For other nationalities, please check with the relevant authorities.
You cannot participate in the Raid 4L Trophy without a full driving licence. The provisional certificate (the attestation received before your full licence) is not valid abroad, which means you are not permitted to drive in Morocco or Spain.
Setting up an association is not mandatory. If you set up an organisation later on, you can let us know your association name by phone or email.
To set up an association, you can complete the process directly online. Find all the info here: https://www.associations.gouv.fr/creer-votre-association.html
Setting up an association gives you credibility in your fundraising efforts. A sponsor of any kind will find it much easier to transfer money to an association account than to a personal account.
If you are a loi 1901 association, you are not entitled to complete the tax deduction form (CERFA). Certain public-interest associations can do so — check with your prefecture and tax office. However, companies can record their financial support under their advertising budget, which may be treated as a deductible expense on their balance sheet.
Yes, but you cannot use them for commercial purposes.
You are only authorised to use the 4L TROPHY participant logo.
Any modification is permitted as long as the 4L remains stock and complies with the standards set by the French Highway Code. You must in particular be able to undergo a technical inspection at any time in France.
It is strongly recommended to have your 4L's chassis inspected by a professional before departure. A chassis in poor condition can be dangerous and jeopardise your participation.
Your 4L must be insured comprehensively or third-party, depending on your choice. Your insurance must cover Morocco and Spain. Be sure to check with your insurer that you are covered for this type of event.
Vehicles with a collection registration document are not permitted to participate in the 4L Trophy as they cannot be driven in Morocco.
Only Renault 4Ls are permitted (R4, 4L, R4F4, R4F6). Other Renault models are not accepted.
Yes, front and rear tow rings are mandatory. They must be securely fastened to the chassis.
The Start Village is a convivial gathering that brings all participants together before the big departure. It is the opportunity for technical and administrative checks, meeting other crews, and enjoying the entertainment. It takes place in Biarritz and also welcomes VIP guests (personalities, ambassadors, etc.) providing great visibility for the event.
Yes, because it is where the technical and administrative check phases are validated. You must also attend as a complete team — that means: 4L, driver, and co-driver.
First of all, the technical check is not an MOT. It involves verifying that you have all the items and documents required by the regulations. During the technical checks, you will need to confirm that your vehicle fully complies with current laws, the Highway Code, and road safety regulations.
Yes, and you must have original documents — copies are not accepted.
Ropes, cables, and tow hitches are not permitted. Only tow straps are allowed.
The use of GPS is strictly prohibited.
A roadbook is a document used to follow a route that you don't know but which has been scouted and transcribed on paper according to writing conventions. The information recorded includes mileage, diagrams of roads or tracks, compass bearings in degrees, and corresponding notes.
Yes, and it must be in perfect working order — it is one of the important items to check during the service.
The bivouacs are not open to the public and are exclusively reserved for 4L Trophy participants. The organisation of the bivouacs is subject to authorisation from the Moroccan authorities. The 4L Trophy organisation ensures security at the bivouacs with the presence of Moroccan authorities.
The intervention of organisation mechanics is free of charge. They assist crews who have broken down if the crew wishes, but they have no obligation regarding response times or outcomes given the context of the raid. Furthermore, 4L Trophy mechanics are not required to carry out routine maintenance on vehicles — each participant is of course responsible for their own 4L. If you don't have the parts needed for a repair, you will need to purchase them on-site from a local supplier.
Mechanical assistance is provided exclusively by the organisation. Any external assistance is punishable by exclusion from the raid.
Tap water is not drinkable in Morocco. Be sure to buy sealed bottles of mineral water.
For food donations, you can hand them over to the French Croix-Rouge from the Start Village. For school and sports supplies, you will drop off this equipment with the Enfants du Désert team in Merzouga (South-East Morocco) during the Raid, at the official donation ceremony.
The association members do not have a dedicated truck for transporting donations. This is therefore unfortunately not possible. If you don't have enough space in your vehicle for your donations, you can post a message on the 'Entraide 4L Trophy Officiel' Facebook group so that a crew from your region can help you.
To contribute to the Enfants du Désert school construction project, you can make a financial donation of €20 or more (according to your means) at the Start Village in Biarritz.
It's a day, running alongside the rally, organised by the Enfants du Désert association. On the programme: visits to 4L Trophy schools, meeting the children supported by the association, taking part in a collective project... To keep it authentic, this day is open to 20 crews only.
