The place of women in the 4L Trophy: increasingly numerous crews
The 4L Trophy, a student solidarity raid across the Moroccan desert, sees the place of women growing every year. Long a minority, they now represent an important part of the crews and contribute to changing the image of rally-raid, too often perceived as a male-dominated world.
From a male-dominated world to a mixed adventure
Historically, rally-raids were associated with a world of men, between mechanics, performance and extreme conditions. Yet, from the earliest editions of the 4L Trophy, pioneering female crews took the start, proving that with determination, a compass and a road book, they had every place on the Moroccan trails. Today, nearly 30% of crews are 100% female. A progression that reflects the evolution of mindsets, the rise of women's sports and the visibility of inspiring role models in automotive, sports and solidarity.
Strong motivations and specific challenges
Participants are attracted by:
- the spirit of solidarity and mutual aid of the raid,
- personal challenge and stepping out of comfort zones,
- the eco-solidarity dimension of the 4L Trophy. They sometimes still face prejudices, particularly regarding mechanics or managing extreme conditions. But these obstacles often become drivers of motivation. Solidarity between female crews and the growing diversity of the raid help to shift perspectives.
A richness for the event
By becoming increasingly involved, women bring new energy to the 4L Trophy:
- diversity of profiles,
- complementarity of teams,
- new identification models for future participants.
As the spirit of the raid sums it up: The 4L Trophy is an adventure that belongs to everyone. And women now occupy an essential place in it, on the starting line and in the heart of the desert.
